Anecdotes

I have the impression to  mature  faster here

Hello everybody, I’m Ambrine. I’m 20 years old and at the moment I’m doing an EVS in Budapest, Hungary.

Some funny stories in Hungary… by Ambrine

It’s been 3 months now that I’m here and I really love Budapest! The city is beautiful. Ok, let’s say that culture is different, I mean it in the sense that many Hungarians are really shy. They don’t do the “bise” (give a kiss to greet people) like in France. The first time you met them, they aren’t very open but after a while, when you know them better, they’re great!

Once in the tramway, the person next to me had a phone conversation, till there nothing special. But just before he hung up he said loudly “Pussy, pussy!” I was really surprised and looked around if somebody was laughing but nobody looked shocked. After this experience I learned that Puszi (the right spelling) means “kiss” in Hungarian . This is not for nothing that Hungarian language is one of the most difficult in the world…

Another time, I was in a metro station which is a crossing point between 3 underground lines. Because I was afraid to get lost I asked a controller the direction. He answered me: “You go down and turn left” while pointing at the right side. I was confused because I wasn’t sure which direction I had to take.  Finally I took the right, like he pointed. Looking back I saw the man who seemed proud in front of his colleagues, I think that he was really happy to speak to me in english and help me, he had a big smile.
